Bug Spray
As we all know bug sprays on the market can be scary and filled with toxic ingredients. There are several recipes out there that are wonderful alternatives to what you can buy at your local grocery store or drug store. We concocted something last night that we plan to put to the test in this buggy humid summer weather.
Of course you can always rely on your Purification and Eucalyptus Radiata and Lavender oils to be great insect repellents but if you’d like to concoct an essential oil filled bug spray of your own here is one option!
We used Valerie Worwood’s book as a reference.
We took a small spritzer bottle 15ml and used some distilled water, witch hazel (if you have it) or actually in place of the witch hazel we used vodka, and some therapeutic grade essential oils. We used Lemongrass, Lavender, Thyme, and Peppermint. In the 15ml bottle we used 4 drops of Lavender, 4 drops of Thyme, 4 drops of Peppermint and 8 drops of Lemongrass. I put two drops of vodka in each one and filled the rest of the bottle with distilled water.
Other great additions to this mix would be Purification and Eucalyptus as I mentioned earlier, and of course if you are in a bind you can always use these oils independently of one another for some protection. We have had great success with just Purification around our ankles in the summer time, even in WI at our cabin by the lake (mosquito heaven).
Happy Buggy Summer!
