Ginger, Turmeric and Black Pepper Tea
Welcome to the Tea Nook. A small monthly pause for steeping, breathing, and tending ourselves.
This cup is warm, earthy, and deeply supportive. Ginger and turmeric bring their golden heat, while black pepper helps unlock turmeric’s beneficial compounds and adds just a touch of spice. It’s a simple tea with a long history in traditional herbal practices.

What this tea supports
This tea supports the immune system, digestion, circulation, and healthy inflammation response.
Ginger is famous for its warming, stimulating nature and its ability to support digestion and circulation. Turmeric is rich in antioxidants and is widely used to support the body’s natural inflammatory response. A small pinch of black pepper helps the body absorb turmeric’s beneficial compounds more effectively.
Together they create a bright, warming tea that feels especially supportive during colder months, when the immune system needs a little extra love, or anytime the body could use a gentle metabolic boost.
Ingredients
Fresh ginger root
Fresh turmeric root
A pinch of cracked black pepper
Optional additions:
Honey or maple syrup for sweetness
Lemon for brightness
How I make it
Slice fresh ginger and turmeric root and place them in a small pot of water. Bring to a gentle simmer and let it steep for about 10 minutes.
Play with the amounts of each herb in this mixture. If you love ginger, hit it hard, but remember it has a bit of a kick.
Pour into a mug and add a small pinch of cracked black pepper. I keep a mortar and pestle beside my tea nook, for grinding a wee bit of certain herbs. If desired, stir in a little honey or a squeeze of lemon.

This tea is also wonderful when made in a larger batch and kept warm on the stove for slow sipping.
The jar with a pour lid pictured above is actually a concoction of turmeric, garlic and ginger root that I boil on my stove and keep in the refrigerator, at the ready to add to recipes. I’ll use as a marinade for chicken, add it to soups and sauces or just warm some hot water and add this mix to my water to drink as a tea in the afternoon.
When I drink this
I love this tea in the morning or mid-afternoon, especially when I want something warming and invigorating. It’s grounding, energizing, and feels like a small act of care for the body. A little immune boost to boot.
I have to be careful about when I drink ginger – not too late in the day for me – or I’ll have a difficult time falling asleep.
P.S. – You can also soak in this concoction, however I might leave out the pepper and add some Vitamin C powder and epsom salts. Most of the tea recipes I share, are happy in the bathtub or as a foot soak. Cheers.
